computer aided drug design [CADD]

well, for a start madam has asked us to find few terms related to this particular they are...>>>

1) bioinformatics - application of information technology and computer science to the field of molecular biology.

e.g: mapping and analyzing DNA and protein sequences, aligning different DNA and protein sequences to compare them and creating and viewing 3-D models of protein structures.

2) bioinformatics tools -the software programs for the saving, retrieving, and analysis of biological data and extracting the information from them.

>> the basic local alignment tool [BLAST] for comparing gene and protein sequences against others in public databases.

>>FASTA - a database search tool used to compare a nucleotide or peptide sequence to a sequence database.

3) protein data bank [PDB] - a repository for the 3-D structural data of large biological molecules, such as protein and nucleic acids.

unfortunately, couldn't find anything regarding NCBI.. ;(

hope these may be helpful to others...

Final Year Project [FYP]

Title: Antioxidant Activity of Melastoma malabathricum flowers
Supervisor: Dr. Deny Susanti

mainly, there are 4 steps in completing my fyp.
i) extraction
ii) thin layer chromatography [TLC]
iii) DPPH radical scavenging activity
iv) lipid peroxidation using ferric thiocynate method

so far, part i is done. currently, working more and more on part ii and iii simultaneously (gooood time management..;> )

here are some snapshots of my works so far...

the flowers- pink, white, and purple

-can u see the purple background? and the movement of the compound?
-these only 1st run..need to repeat again and again and again...
-left--TLC screening. the white spot indicate positive antioxidant activity in the particular sample.
-right--to observe the active single compound.

DPPH radical scavenging activity
-highest conc. of sample (left) to lowest conc.
-yellow color indicates that the sample has fully scavenged the dpph aka free radicals (purple color)
-purple color in cuvette shows the dpph is not fully scavenged by the sample since its concentration is the lowest.

tomorrow morning, repeat the same thing..(sigh..)

Journey to the Center of My Life

13th nov 1987 at sunset (haha...)
"...uwek uwek uwek, mummy i see the world.."

"welcome to the world,CUTEY.", the doctor said.

nov 2006, 19 years later..
"...welcome to iium kuantan. is this a UNIVERSITY? looks like my secondary"
no offense mr.iium (pls dont sue me..)

nov 2009
oficially my 4th year here in iium.
life's become hectic and chaotic? lately, with more classes (unfortunately,on weekends as well), FYP that showed significant progess,and...this blog.hahaha

seems difficult to write in blog, and nothing much to write here.
till then.
